New features
Constraints tab
The Details panel has a new Constraints tab where you define constraints on a definition, with the same functionality as Model Builder. This is part of the ongoing work to bring all Model Builder functionality into Metagraph Builder.
Constraints apply to definitions only. For other types, the tab is disabled, and clicking it shows a message explaining why. A constraint can only include attributes with a multiplicity of 1; Metagraph Builder prevents adding any others.
Transaction History
The Log panel has a Transaction History tab that shows what has already been saved, so you can see who changed what, and when. You can filter it by date, data type, user, and comment, and view it by date or by entity.
Transaction History is available to all Metagraph Builder users and does not require the Sync Tool plugin.
Expression functions
All expression functions are now implemented in Metagraph Builder, and documentation for each function is available in the editors.
Improvements
- Clearer save issues in the Log panel. When something prevents one or more entities from being saved, the Log panel now shows more clearly what the issues are.
- New projects are added last. A new or added project now goes to the end of the project list instead of the first position, so the numbering of your existing projects changes less.
- Attribute name placeholder. A new attribute no longer starts with the name "New Attribute" that you had to clear first. The field now shows a placeholder, so you can type the name straight away.
- More visible project switcher. The project switcher in the header now has a dropdown indicator, making it clear that it opens a menu.
- Refreshed header icons. The header icons have been updated, with consistent hover and pressed states in both light and dark mode.
- Simpler selection between panels. A selection is synced across the panels: nodes you select in the Library, on the Canvas, or in the Navigator or Project panel are selected in all of them. The Details and Attributes panels show the selected entities, and Transaction History follows the selection. Use CTRL+Click (⌘+Click) to add or remove an entity, Shift+Click to select a range in a list, and click an empty part of the Canvas to clear the selection.
- Resizable panels. Panels can be resized by dragging their borders.
- No frame around the canvas. The outline around the canvas has been removed. In light mode it could be mistaken for a focus frame.
- Faster instance icons. Instance icons load more efficiently.
- Aligned Launcher and Information menus. The Launcher and Information menus now have the same content as in Workbench and the other inorigo® tools.
Changed behavior
The following changes affect existing workflows. Review each item before upgrading.
Projects and focus
Projects and focus work differently than in earlier versions. A project is now a bookmarked group, which integrates projects better with other parts of the inorigo® platform. Your work is now centered on the Canvas, and a project is a collection of nodes that you add to deliberately.
- Shared project groups. Each project is built on a project group, which can be shared: several users can have the same project group as one of their projects. Create a project with + in the Project panel, or press Browse project groups to add an existing project group as one of your projects.
- Project menu. From the project menu you can rename, duplicate, or delete the project group, leave the project, or put all of its nodes on the Canvas. Renaming or deleting a project group affects everyone who has it.
- New nodes go to the Canvas. A node you create is placed on the Canvas and is no longer added to the active project automatically.
- Adding nodes to a project is explicit. The ⊕ and ⊖ icons and double-clicking a row now add nodes to or remove them from the Canvas, not the project. To add a node to the active project, right-click it and select Add to project group. To add everything on the Canvas at once, right-click an empty part of the Canvas and select Add canvas nodes to project group.
- The Navigator follows the Canvas. The Navigator now shows the nodes on the Canvas instead of the nodes in the active project.
- Switching project leaves the Canvas as it is. To show a project's nodes, select Add all nodes to canvas… from the project menu and choose Replace.
- Project changes are saved with everything else. Changes to a project are no longer saved automatically. They are pending until you press Save, like any other change.
"Commit" is now "Save"
Metagraph Builder used "commit" to tell saving to the database apart from saving locally in the browser. The term was used inconsistently and caused confusion, so buttons and the comment dialog now say Save.
The user preference Suppress Commit Dialog has been renamed Show save dialog. Note that the new name describes the opposite setting: it is on when the dialog is shown.
Save comments are enforced when required
When system.transaction.comment.required is set to true, users must now enter a comment of at least ten characters before saving. Previously, the dialog accepted a save without a real comment.
With this setting enabled, the Show save dialog preference is not available to users, because the dialog cannot be skipped.
Security improvements
This release includes a security improvement. Upgrading is recommended. Details are available in the full security advisory on the inorigo® documentation portal.
